Cape Cod Cape Verdean Museum and Cultural Center

Falmouth Public Schools partners with the Cape Cod Cape Verdean Museum and Cultural Center (CCCVMCC), so students can explore art, history, and cultural identity. Students in grade 2 visit the Museum and cultural center for an introduction to Cape Verdean culture and heritage in Falmouth. While at the Museum, they learn about the importance of Turtles (Tartarugas) to both Cape Verde and Cape Cod and learn to play the Cape Verdean game of Ouril, which is very similar to Mancala. Elementary students also have the opportunity to learn about art, music, history, and cultural identity with volunteers from the CCCVMCC in an after school program for students in grades K through 4. And, all Clippers have the opportunity to participate in a creative writing and art contest, demonstrating their connection to the leadership and legacy of Amilcar Cabral. Students at the Lawrence School and Falmouth High School who participate in the VIPS Pathways Program also have the opportunity to visit the Center, exploring new ways to connect with the Cape Verdean community in Falmouth.
