The Falmouth High School science curriculum provides opportunities for students to develop inquiry and investigative skills including collecting and analyzing data and communicating observations and conclusions. The science department offers courses in Earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics as well as a number of electives. Special grant-funded projects within the science department include the Boston College Educational Seismology Project and Discover the Microbes Within! The Wolbachia Project.
Beginning with the class of 2010, the changes in the MCAS requirements for science will mean that all high school students must participate in a Science/Technology Engineering (STE) test by the end of grade 10 to earn a Competency Determination upon graduation. Students must pass one MCAS exam in Biology, Physics, Chemistry or Technology/Engineering to receive a competency determination. Currently, students in grades 5, 8, 9, and 10 participate in MCAS science testing.
